Whats in a name?
(this entry is for Wendy's "Whats in a name" Circle journal- such a fun, fab idea!!!)
I was born Kathryn Roberta, but called Katie Bob (and I just realized that Bob was short for Roberta, um, a few months ago. Yeah, talk about slow......) as a little girl. Kathryn means "pure"- I think my dad may have had a touch of wishful thinking, and Roberta after my mother. My brother's middle name is after my dad. I've always loved this. We are passing this tradition on to our future children now.
I've always loved the way that Kathryn was spelt, to me, its the "right" way. I never disliked my name- but when I went to kindergarden and discovered my name was Kathryn and not Katie, I quickly changed it to Kathryn- and have not let anyone call me Katie since! I remember not answering my younger brother when he would say Katie- it would bug me!!!! I still have cousins that will occasionally call me Katie, but other than that I've pretty much grown out of it. When I got to highschool a boyfriend of one of my best friends started to call me Kat. And it kind of stuck. I liked it, thought it fit me better :) My longtime friends still call me Kathryn, but everyone I've met since I left my hometown for college has called me Kat. I do get the occasionally "kitty cat" or "meow" and it does bug- I"m not a freakin feline people! And its spelled with a K!!! But i still think my name is fun. Then I married my husband with the last name Post. When we were dating and I realized that I would become Kat Post if we married, I freaked out a little. But now I think its funny. Kat Post, thats me!!! :) :)
